Photographer

Are you a photographer or do you play one on TV? Do you have experience working with digital SLR cameras? Have you shot with film and feel ready to make the jump to digital? Would you like to step up from your point & shoot and work with what the pros use?

Ice-Dance.com is looking for photographers willing to volunteer to be a part of our extensive coverage of the Lake Placid Ice Dance Championships.

Our kind and patient photography staff (well, Michelle Wojdyla, on a good day) is willing to train interested individuals who would like to shoot parts of the week's competition. Michelle will be in Placid starting on Tuesday and can help you learn your way around the digital SLR camera in preparation for the week's events. You are encouraged to bring your own bodies, lenses and memory cards, but equipment may be available.

Extensive time commitment is not necessary, just a willingness to learn, a steady hand, and the desire to shoot the best photos you've ever taken. There is no age minimum.

I have my own equipment.
I would need to use Michelle's equipment

I have the following photography experience:

Photo editor

Do you know your way around a computer? Do you like looking at photographs of skaters? A lot of photographs? Have you worked with photo editing software? Are you able to make a decision that will affect what thousands of people see online?

Ice-Dance.com is looking for photo editors willing to volunteer to be a part of our extensive coverage of the Lake Placid Ice Dance Championships.

Our staff will be shooting over 10,000 digital photos during the course of the week, and we need individuals who can look through the photos, delete the bad ones, and select the best of each skater in each event to be published on ice-dance.com.
Once the images are selected, photo editing will encompass cropping, resizing and possibly minor color-correction to make the images web-friendly. The software used is Adobe Photoshop and training will be provided.

Volunteers will also need to ensure that all photographs are properly identified with the correct skater and organized on the computer so they can be burned onto CD and/or DVD for storage and easy retrieval.

The ideal candidate will be able to work quickly and efficiently--and not delete anything that shouldn't be deleted. Extensive blocks of time commitment are not necessary, although we do ask for a minimum of two hours over the course of the week (does not have to be all in one day). There is no age minimum.

Check if you have your own laptop and Photoshop or other photo editing program.

Photographer Assistant & Runner Are you organized? Do you know your way around a laptop? A digital memory card reader?

Ice-dance.com is looking for volunteers interested in assisting our photographers and photo editors with the organization of the more than 10,000 digital images to be shot during the course of the week at the Lake Placid Ice Dance Championships. Volunteers are needed to sit with the photographers and keep track of each competitor in each event with identifiable notes such as costuming. When memory cards are full, the assistant will download the images into the provided laptop and move the photos into the proper folder for each skater.

Volunteers will also coordinate with photo editors to make sure the proper images are identified and prepared for publication on ice-dance.com. Assistants may also help with battery charging and "running" for results and starting orders.

The ideal candidate can keep track of who's who and make sure no images are lost or misfiled. Extensive blocks of time commitment are not necessary and there is no age minimum.
