Two new trends arriving in ice dancing due to the new rules are one-handed rotational lifts, blade to head lifts where the female pulls her leg back, while twisting herself into a pretzel so her skate close to her head.
Jennifer Wester and Daniil Barantsev won the original dance portion of the event with an expressive, precise and strongly skated interpretation of the latin rhythms.
In second place, Jamie Silverstein and Ryan O'Meara's program contained quick twizzles in connecting steps, including a connecting move where he was in a spread eagle and she was arched backward with her legs in a full split of over 180 degrees.
Loren Galler-Rabinowitz and David Mitchell were third with both step sequences containing many turns on one foot. The program should gain more momentum with each performance in the season.
Trina Pratt and Todd Gilles' program contained a flip over the shoulder lift where she landed on his back. There were many additional intricate transitions and lifts.
Kimberly Navarro and Brent Bommentre's program contained a midline and side-by-side straighline step-sequence with half of the element being performed on one foot.
Julia Rey and Philipp Rey finished sixth. Their expression was excellent and their midline step-sequence had perfect unison. Their spins were strong as well.
