Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto are the three-time and reigning national
champions, as well as two-time world medalists and Olympic silver
medalists. Belbin and Agosto train in Detroit under Igor Shpilband, who
has been their coach since they became partners in 1998, and Marina Zueva.
Belbin and Agosto's success started early in their career, winning the
US Junior dance title and winning the bronze at Junior Worlds in their
first season competing together. In the next seasons, they completed
their set of Junior Worlds medals, by taking silver in 2001 and gold in
2002, and had a solid start to their senior career, winning two silver
medals at Nationals, which also qualified them for the world team.
Since then, they have only improved, picking up many more medals and
accolades, including three Skate America titles, three Four Continents
Championship titles, the USOC 'Team of the Month' award for both January
and February of 2006, and the SKATING magazine's Readers' Choice Award. They are the 2006 Olympic silver medallists.
Belbin is originally from Canada and had to receive US citizenship to
compete at the Olympics. Belbin and Agosto had previously qualified for
the Olympics in 2002, but were unable to attend because Belbin lacked US
Citizenship at that time. Belbin became a citizen in December 2005.
