Outside on the ledge

The Outside Edge - What a great name for a blog! To say that me being on edge leading up to my first visit to nationals as a parent of a skater would be an understatement. Why you say? Oh, just that there are more than a few things that need to be completed before leaving for St. Paul.
Let's check just a few things on that list:
On the edge all right ... more like outside on the ledge!
Well, my mission as I have chosen to accept it is to give you an "outside view" of the 2008 U.S. Figure Skating Championship from the perspective of a parent of a first time skater at "big" Nationals. I will do my best to relay all of the excitement and fun that is just waiting to be had in the next week or so! Not to worry - I will not be giving any perspective into the actual skating as I am sure that I am absolutely not qualified to do so. I am sure Travis will do a fantastic job covering all the skating in his "inside the edge" blog. I will comment however that even though I am not a certified technical specialist, I am fairly sure that grabbing your blade behind your back and spinning as fast as you can right beside someone else doing the same thing is called a level 4 twizzle (see I pay attention). Although, I believe that in some countries this could be considered illegal, if not just crazy!
What I will say about the skating is the true amazement I have for the talents of each of the skaters that will be at Nationals this year. What an achievement for all of them! As for my fellow parents, I can see the pride you have for your skaters just in the gleam of your eyes. I can also see the hole in your wallets. :-)
So, I will be blogging away as much as possible - If you have any particular things you would like to hear about - Just let me know. I will do my best to provide as much information as possible.
Let's just hope they have wireless access in the pub!
Cheers!

Let's check just a few things on that list:
- Send off exhibitions, Wedding of coaches, NFL football playoffs (all of these were in one weekend) Go Pats!
- Finishing those projects at work
- Getting someone to feed the cat while we are gone
- Packing
- Trying to remain calm
- More packing
- Getting the directions to the best Irish pub near the rink in St. Paul
- Explaining to friends and relatives why they don't show the novice kids live on prime time T.V. and then explaining how to use Icenetwork instead
- Making sure I go to the right twin city
