Anjelika's
mother wanted her to become a skater. She thought she
was very musical and graceful. When she was 6, she went
to music school. When she finished music school, she
was asked to enter Gnesinka (a musical institute). Anjelika
was not content to sit motionless and play piano all day,
so she pursued skating.
Before Anjelika teamed up with Oleg, Vladimir Fedorov was
her partner. In 1993, Anjelika and
Vladimir won a bronze medal at the world championships.
In 1994, they won the national title in the absence of Grishuk/Platov
and Usova/Zhulin. They finished 6th at the 1994 Olympics,
but had to withdraw from 1994 World Championships because
Anjelika broke her wrist. Although Anjelika
planned to continue skating with Fedorov, her coach Natalia
Linichuk had other ideas. She persuaded Anjelika to
change partners and created the partnership of Krylova &
Ovsyannikov.
Anjelika is probably best known for her expression.
Many of the commentators have made remarks on how she feels
the music and that is shows in her face during the dances.
Just
before Anjelika and Oleg came to Newark to train (1995), she
injured her back in practice. This initial injury
has plagued her since, and she and Oleg have had to miss the
entire 1999-2000 season so she could seek treatment.
After
skating together just 4 years, she and Oleg stood on top of
the 1998 World Championships podium; a title they repeated
in 1999.
After the 1999 season, Anjelika and Oleg retired from amateur
skating and continue to pursue professional opportunities.
Anjelika also choreographs programs for skaters at their training
rink, The Pond.
