Navka & Kostomarov :: The Team :: Training
Info
Tatiana
and Roman are coached by Alexander Zhulin and train at Floyd Hall
Arena in Montclair, New Jersey. During the summer months, Tanya
and Roman spend one to two hours daily, five days a week on the
ice training. The number of hours increases to as many as four
hours per day during the season. They also take ballet classes
during the season and work out in the gym and run for conditioning.
Tatiana Druchinina, the wife of pairs skater Artur Dmitriev, works
with the team on their choreography. Druchinina is a former champion
gymnast who won the World Championships in 1985.
Tanya
and Roman are often asked how it is for them to train under Sasha,
since he is married to Tanya. Sasha expects more from each of
them and tries hard to show no favoritism. Tanya has said that
Sasha has a tendency to take Roman's side in arguments as evidence
of this. Roman thinks the situation is tricky and that their first
season was the toughest. He remembers thinking he is my coach,
but married to my partner. In the beginning, the team did have
it's share of arguments, but both have said it is because they
had to adjust to each others communication. Now that they are
a seasoned team, they are able to understand each other much easier.
