2016 JGP Cup of Mordovia Blog #1

Our day started just like any other day.

We got up early and went to the rink for training. We finished around 1:30 and just went home to finish packing. I think that at that time, I just realized I was going to Russia. As a little girl growing up watching the movie Anastasia, I always wanted to go to Russia.

We left home at 3:45 pm and that was the beginning of a looooong trip. We flew from Detroit to Paris, where we had a pit stop at Ladurée for some macaroons, then from Paris to Moscow and finally an extremely long layover before our charter flight to Saransk. The charter was an extremely small plane where all of our luggage was piled up behind the pilot’s cabin! I had never seen that before and if I had the strength at that time, I would have taken a picture. We landed in a field in the middle of nowhere and it was really cold and dark. By the time we got to the hotel, we both realized that it took us almost 24 hours to get to Saransk.

We made it safe and sound and now anything that looks like a shower and a bed feels really good.

Good night from Saransk!
