Xeniya and Sergiy are a very young and talented pair from Ukraine. For the 2006-2007 season, Xeniya and Sergiy medalled at every competition; often winning the gold medal. As you can imagine training in a sport such as figure skating is something they love so much, but is also very expensive for their families.

The economy in Ukraine at present is not high and because of constant struggle for authority among the country leaders, sports at a national level are nearly not supported. Xeniya and Sergiy's sports successes are daily, monthly and annual struggle for a survival for them and their families.

The average salary in Ukraine - 200-300 dollars a month. It's no secret, that skates cost 700-800 dollars, with the annual cost of skating being about $30,000 per year. While their friends and relatives all try to help, it is not enough as the team's skill level and charges continue to grow each year. It is necessary to pay to the trainer, the choreographer, ballet instructors, and for costumes. It is a much greater challenge to pay for trips to participate in competitions. Often the team does not stay at the official hotels for competitions and have found it necessary to stay in cheap hostels to save money. If one night in the official hotel costs $100 for a double room, and it is necessary to pay for three nights, that is a month's salary for one of their parents.
