At the World Championships in Saitama, Japan, the ISU Ice Dance Technical Committee conducted a Coaches\u2019 Meeting<\/a> and discussed the 2019-2020 Senior and Junior Rhythm and Free Dances.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n

Anne Calder of Ice-Dance.com has compiled the following highlights<\/strong> of the Music Theme and Required Elements for the 2019-2020 Senior Rhythm Dance. More information is included in the ISU video<\/a>.<\/p>\n

MUSIC THEME:<\/strong><\/h4>\n

1.\u00a0 Music Theme is from Musicals and\/or Operettas<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  • All selected music should be recognized from one of the following Rhythms:
    \nQuickstep, Blues, March, Polka, Foxtrot, Swing, Charleston, Waltz<\/li>\n
  • The number of rhythms is not restricted.<\/li>\n
  • The selected music may be from the same or different Musicals and\/or Operettas.<\/li>\n
  • It must be a continuous arc of music and not just pieces of music stuck together.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    2.\u00a0 Allowed Musicals and\/or Operettas<\/strong><\/p>\n

      \n
    • A play (on the stage) or a film in which the music, singing and\/or dancing play an essential part \u201cto tell the story. (Chicago, Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, The Mikado<\/em>)<\/li>\n
    • \u201cJuke Box Musicals, which is a stage show\/film\/musical that includes many well-known songs from a particular singer, songwriter, or group (Mamma Mia, Jersey Boys)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      3.\u00a0 Not allowed – Doesn\u2019t fit the theme of Musical and\/or Operettas<\/strong><\/p>\n

        \n
      • Music from movie soundtracks, which are not movie musicals. (Mr. & Mrs. Smith, The Godfather, Star Wars, James Bond). These are \u201ccompilations of music\/songs\/tracks\u201d and not Musicals or Juke Box Musicals.<\/li>\n
      • Singing dialogue and\/or singing lyrics that have no recognizable rhythm.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        4.\u00a0 Words do not have to be sung in English. Operettas have a variety of language.<\/strong><\/p>\n

        5.\u00a0 Musicals can be non-traditional and sung in a different language <\/strong>(Indian Polka)<\/p>\n


        \nREQUIRED ELEMENTS:<\/strong><\/h4>\n

        1.\u00a0 Pattern Dance Element: (PDE): FINNSTEP<\/strong><\/p>\n

          \n
        • One (1) Section of Finnstep \/ Section 1, Steps 1-33 \/ 104 beats per minute +\/- 2 beats<\/li>\n
        • It must be skated to one of the following rhythms: Quickstep, Charleston, Swing<\/li>\n
        • Four Key Points
          \n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span>(1) Lady Steps 20-21 \/ (2) Man Steps 20-21
          \n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0(3) Lady Steps 32-33 \/ (4) Man Steps 32-33<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          2.\u00a0 Short Lift
          \n<\/strong><\/p>\n

          3.\u00a0 Set of Sequential Twizzles
          \n<\/strong><\/p>\n

          4.\u00a0 Pattern Dance Type (PDt) Step Sequence (Style B)<\/strong><\/p>\n

            \n
          • The rhythm is skated to the same rhythm as Finnstep (Quickstep, Charleston, Swing), but NOT<\/strong> necessarily from the same Musical and\/or Operetta \u2013 but the same rhythm.<\/strong><\/li>\n
          • The PDt) is evaluated as one unit by adding the base value of the Lady\u2019s PDt level and the Man PDt level and then applying the GOE.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            5.\u00a0 Step Sequence in Hold or Not Touching or a combination of both (Style B)<\/strong><\/p>\n

              \n
            • It must be skated in a different rhythm<\/strong> than the one chosen for the Pattern Dance Element (PDE) Pattern Dance Type (PDt)<\/li>\n
            • It must be a Midline or Diagonal Step Sequence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n


              \nSPECIFICS\/RESTRICTIONS:<\/strong><\/h4>\n

              1.\u00a0 Finnstep Stop: <\/strong>After Step 33 a 5 second stop is allowed, but not required. It isn\u2019t counted as a permitted stop.<\/p>\n
