{"id":20600,"date":"2019-04-12T21:31:08","date_gmt":"2019-04-13T01:31:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ice-dance.com\/site\/?p=20600"},"modified":"2020-02-16T12:12:03","modified_gmt":"2020-02-16T17:12:03","slug":"q-a-with-patinage-atypique-organizer-marjorie-lajoie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ice-dance.com\/site\/q-a-with-patinage-atypique-organizer-marjorie-lajoie\/","title":{"rendered":"Q &#038; A with Patinage Atypique organizer Marjorie Lajoie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>by Francesca<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Team IDC&#8217;s Francesca attended Patinage Atypique on April 2, in Montreal Canada.\u00a0 Marjorie Lajoie, who organized Patinage Atypique, graciously answered a few questions about the benefit show.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>How did the idea of Patinage Atypique develop?<br \/>\n<\/strong>ML: I wanted to help the cause because my little brother Charles-\u00c9tienne has autism. I wanted to use skating as a way to raise money by organizing a show. April 2nd is Autism Awareness Day, so we chose this date.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You raised $15,500 with a sold out event. What\u2019s the aim for the money raised?<br \/>\n<\/strong>ML: It goes to the Fondation de l\u2019Autisme.\u00a0 It\u2019s an association for all of Qu\u00e9bec that includes kids and adults. It\u2019s helping the families in Qu\u00e9bec with a member with autism to improve their quality of life, by supporting holidays for the families or the kids.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How did you put everything together?<br \/>\n<\/strong>ML: I train in Montr\u00e9al at the Gadbois ice dance center where there are a lot of international skaters in the team, so I asked some of my training mates from Spain, the United Kingdom, Poland, and Canada to take part. I also asked some of my friends from Team Canada who are competing internationally, and also skaters with autism to participate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How did you coordinate the event? <br \/>\n<\/strong>ML: We used our networks to sell tickets. For example, I posted on Instagram, then people involved also told everyone they knew about the show.\u00a0 We also put some posters up around town, on the newspapers, etc. Just by talking about the show we sold all the tickets!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you plan to keep doing the show the following years?<br \/>\n<\/strong>ML: I didn\u2019t think that we would sell all the tickets, but now that I saw it worked so well, I said \u201csee you next year\u201d already. If we can raise money by doing shows, then why not? Every skater who participated thanked us for the experience and wants to do it again. I will also ask skaters from other countries, and maybe we will move the show to the weekend. But we will keep it in April as it\u2019s the month dedicated to autism in Qu\u00e9bec.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What did your brother think about it?<br \/>\n<\/strong>ML: He was really excited and a bit stressed, but he was really happy.
