2012 NHK Trophy Blog #2: Time to Polka

Yesterday was a great day to Polka! Chris and I started off the Short Dance event with our program from the movie “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.”  We are very happy with our performance, although we have to go back and work on our levels. The whole program, from start to finish tells a story of a man looking for a bride, so it is quite a funny program to perform! Chris especially loves my kiss on his cheek at the end!!!

And it was great to see such a variety of different polka programs at this event. Well done to everyone! And it made it more interesting for the audience for sure!  The Japanese fans responded very well to all the Short Dances and were so supportive. Chris and I were so happy to start off the NHK Trophy for all of Miyagi and Japan to see!
At the far end of the rink, there is a picture/sign from the Japanese People saying “Thank You” in many different languages. It is a beautiful picture and from far away, it looks like a Japanese woman, bowing her head and putting her hands together in prayer.  And if you look at the shape of the woman’s head, you will see that it is in the shape of the Tohoku Region, the north east area of Japan that was hit by the tsunami.  And in addition, if you look closely at the picture, you will see that it is a mosaic!  A picture made up of many tiny little photos of the Japanese people in the Tohoku Region. It is truly an amazing work of art!!!
